Situated at the head of Kenmare Bay and nestling between the Cork and Kerry moutains, Kenmare is a charming town in the south west of Ireland. The town was founded in 1670 by Sir William Petty and preserves many of its original features which led the Irish Tourist Board, Bord Failte, to bestowed upon it the title of Kerry's first heritage town. The town's position makes it an ideal base from which to tour the Ring of Kerry or the rugged Ring of Beara. Kenmare is well known for its gourmet food and the town is filled with restaurants, pubs and hotels offering a high stanadard of food and accommodation. Kenmare is also famous for lace making which you can see being made in the Heritage Centre. The Killarney National Park and Lakes are within a 30 minute drive of Kenmare and the Dingle Peninsula with its fabulous sandy beaches and quaint towns is a must for all visitors.
