Local Attractions
Waterford is known the world over for its crystal, and a trip to the factory is highly recommended if only for the fabulous chandeliers in the reception area and the chance to purchase one of your own. In the town itself there is the Waterford Heritage Museum which tells the history of the area and has an excellent collection of Viking and Medieval artifacts. Many interesting buildings, including shops, cafés and restaurants line the quayside including Reginald's Tower. Built by the Normans it has by turn been a fortress, mint, arsenal and prison and now houses the civic museum. Waterford also has many fine Georgian buildings, the best examples of which can be seen in the Cathedral Square. Further afield lies the charming fishing village of Dunmore East, and the many picturesque villages, castles and beaches of the Hook Peninsula which culminate in Hook Head with its impressive ancient lighthouse.
