Area Description
The Butler Arms is situated in Waterville on the Ring of Kerry. There are many fine golf courses nearby which have attracted a wealth of famous visitors over the years; most notably Charlie Chaplin and more recently Tiger Woods. It is only an hours drive from the fabulous Killarney National Park and has easy access to Valentia Island and the Skelligs.
Dining Facilities
The award-winning Fisherman's Bar Restaurant offers a varied menu specialising in a variety of freshly caught local seafood. This is complemented by an excellent wine list. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes in Waterville offering a variety of Irish and European food. "Full Irish Breakfast is included in our rate".
Local Attractions
The Ring of Kerry is Ireland's number one tourist destination and it is easy to see why. This long established road around the Iveragh Peninsula traditionally starts and ends in Killarney and Waterville is almost at its mid point. Valentia Island is linked to the mainland by a causeway and it is from here that the first transatlantic cable was laid. The Skellig experience which is near the causeway provides visitors with an audio visual history of the monastery on Skellig Michael as well as information on the sea birds and marine life in the area. Further around the ring you will find Glenbeigh with its beautiful sandy beaches and reconstructed Bog Village. Through Molls Gap and into Kenmare; considered to be the Jewel in the Ring of Kerry; and you are heading back to Waterville. Staigue Fort; a round Iron Age dry stone fort is the best preserved in Ireland and worth a small detour off the main road.
