Crag Cave in Co. Kerry, Ireland - A whole new level of cave exploration is opened to public at Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Just a mere 15 miles away from Tralee and Killarney, this amazing site invites everyone to experience the wonders of natural elements. Enter a world full of enchantment and mystery. Once a vast darkness undisturbed and unexplored, the Crag Cave is now an unparalleled tourist attraction in Co. Kerry. The cave was unimaginably developed to a truly world-class spot.

For centuries, the cave remained uncharted. In 1980, fearless cavers discovered the marvelous nature appeal of the cave. The cave is one of the largest cave systems in the entire Ireland as it measures a remarkable length of 12,510 feet. The cave has been magnificently formed by nature alone. The stalactites and stalagmites treasures within this cavern are masterpieces of nature at work. They clearly depict how powerful the elements of nature can be.

Before its actual development, the sump or the presently termed “Green Lake” serves as the entrance to the cave. Now, there is certainly no need to pass through the sump. Everything has been prepared for your convenience and thrill. What’s more, the best of the natural allures of the cave are excellently preserved.

Tourists and locals alike can take their adventurous selves at the Crag Cave from mid-March to November 1. A guided tour led by experts will take the guests to all of the cave’s bewildering enchantment. The tour starts off at the Limestone Outcrop where the history and formation of the cave can be well understood. The guide will actually be explaining relevant information regarding the Crag Cave. The “Diver’s Delight” which has impressed the Crag Cave’s discoverers will certainly stir your innermost passion for nature.

A must see part of the cave is the corn-like stalactite. It is part of the limestone formation in the cave which is said to be 6000 years old. Due to its form, it is called the “Corn on the Cob”. Open up your eyes and mind for a further imaginative exploration of the cave as you pass along the “Kitchen”. This part of the cavern was named as such due to the shapes that can be seen on the area. There seems to be a wine bottle, glasses, carrot and parsnip that can be distinguished through the formations within the area.

A cave as Crag Cave abounds in legends that attempt to explain the formations. One part of the cave worth exploring is the Diarmuid and Grainne which appears to be a couple with six kids and a dog. They are believed to have escaped a particular person, Fionn, who endeavors to marry Grainne. And guess what? The cave has been their abode!

Perfect contrasts to the centuries old cave are the convenient facilities that are made accessible for guests. After touring the mystery-filled cavern, why not dine it at the cave center’s restaurant or bring home with you a genuine Crag Cave souvenir?
