St. Stephen's Green, Dublin > View Dublin articles
Part of the impressive surge of Dublin’s tourism is its imposing parks and gardens. Among these is the St. Stephen’s Green. This is an area of open space and lined with picture perfect landscapes dotted with flowerbeds, trees, and countless plant genus. It takes pride in its location just within the city centre, thus making it very accessible. Tourists just can’t leave Dublin without a visit to this Victorian park which is among the most popular in Ireland.

There is as much as necessary space for exploration in St. Stephen’s Green which comprises an area of approximately 22 acres. A major intriguing part here is the garden for the blinds. You may think of it as something strange but it does exist here. The strong scent of nature will take you to the North West corner of the park and here you can marvel at spectacular plant displays labeled using the Braille system for the blinds.

If the stroll around the park left your feet tired, stop over at the lake on the north side. Take some time to rest while being entertained by ducks and other waterfowls that inhabit the lake. Let the artificial waterfall soothe you, take away your dead beaten self and restore your lost energy for more exploration of St. Stephen’s Green.

Heading on the southern area of the garden, you will be welcomed by an open meadow which frames a bandstand. This spot here makes a nice setting for summer picnics and small talks. You can even get hold of some lunchtime concerts during the summer season here at St. Stephen’s Green.

And when did a park becomes a park without a statue? In St. Stephen’s Green, you can have a look at statues of some of Ireland’s famed figures like the literary geniuses, Yeats and James Joyce; the nationalist leader of the late 17th century Theobald Wolfe Tone; and the Irish prominent nationalist rebel leader, Robert Emmet. There are more figures to recognize here – all you need is a tour around.

If you are enjoying your literary trip to the St. Stephen’s Green, your thanks must go to Sir A.E. Guinness. Yes, he is part of the Guinness brewing clan. By his earnest endeavor in pushing an act through the Parliament, St. Stephen’s Green was opened to the public.

Don’t just take words for St. Stephen’s Green. Words may arouse your interest but actual experience will satisfy it.
