Co. Galway has an abundant history worth discovering. For this form of activity, Galway’s museums are the most excellent spots to visit. These museums are bearers of Galway’s remarkable past. These have been regular tourist attractions in Galway.

Tourists who pass by the Spanish Arch in Galway must consider paying a visit to the City Museum. In here, the historical accounts of the county and the city are well displayed and presented. This may rather be a small museum but it holds the most significant artifacts in Galway’s history.

Another museum worth visiting is the Mill Museum in Shop Street, Tuam. This structure was once a corn mill and now a museum. Opened in 1974, this has become an admired tourist attraction in Galway. It offers tourists and visitors the rare experience of viewing the actual milling process.

The Dartfield Horsepark and Museum located at Loughrea, Co. Galway is the most recommended museum for equestrian and horse enthusiasts. It presents the relevant history and contribution of horses in Co. Galway. An ideal way to end the museum tour is an actual ride on some of their available horses.

The vintage vehicles aficionados must head on to Ballinahown, Rossaveal for the An Dun Transport and Heritage Museum. On display here is an impressive collection of traditional and classic cars which had been the kings of the road during the early eras. Along with the cars come several old trucks, tractors, and even motorcycles.

If Dublin pays tribute to the widely celebrated writer, James Joyce; Galway, on the other hand, pays reverence to his wife, Nora Barnacle. The Nora Barnacle House Museum can be reached at Galway City Centre. This is considered as the smallest museum in Ireland yet it is a great venue to view some relevant memorabilia about the life and family of James Joyce.

In Gort, Co. Galway lies impressively the Kiltartan Gregory Museum. This has been, for years, a well acclaimed museum to go to for better understanding and knowledge of Galway’s history. On view here are memorabilia of the Great Famine, an old Irish classroom plus loads of other artifacts.

The National University of Ireland, Department of Geology houses the James Mitchell Museum. This museum is a perfect base to explore numerous rock specimens and other geological items. This was opened in 1977 and its attraction continues to date.

To further understand and appreciate your stay at Co. Galway, never miss the chance to personally visit these spectacular museums. In these buildings, you will be taken into a whole new dimension of Galway experience.
