Their wealth boomed in the 18th century and the Muckross House is in fact the fourth house that this clan has inhabited for over a time span of two hundred years.

The Muckross House coexists with a remarkable garden of superb quality. The Muckross Garden has an extensive garden works that began in 1850s when Queen Victoria was said to visit in 1861. Just imagine the 11 years of preparation. Truly, only the finest outcome can be expected. And for sure the ground work did pay off because until now tourists and locals can still enjoy it.

The basement of the house still gives a picture of the old century history. You can actually relive the gone days where this part of the house was the busiest – servants here and there as they perform their day to day tasks.

The Muckross House or the Theach Mhucrois as how the Irish calls it lies between Muckross Lake and Lough Leane. This is just a mere 6 km away from the famous town of Killarney. This magnificent historical house is open for you everyday from 9 am to 5:30 pm. There are guided tours for better appreciation of the place. The tour is presented in seven languages including English, Irish, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish.
