Limerick City extends out to its guests a remarkable venue to experience again the city’s significant past. The Limerick City Museum lies accessibly along Nicholas Street in Limerick City Center. The museum is available for free to any interested guest. It has an array of excellent displays commemorating the city’s history including its bordering areas. On display at the museum are relevant artifacts from countries like Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Masterpieces of world-renowned figures like Pablo Picasso, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Roderic O’Conor, Jack Yeats, Robert Fagan and Henry Moore are also on exhibit here.
A highly interesting museum awaits at Foynes, Co. Limerick. The Foynes Flying Boat Museum revives the 1939 – 1945 era in Foynes history. During this period, the town of Foynes is regarded as the center of the aviation world for air traffic between the United States and Europe. At present, tourists can relive this part of Foynes past through the museum. Situated at the original terminal building, Foynes Flying Boat Museum is the ultimate spot to go to for a realistic feel of the past. Parts of the museum’s prides include the original Radio and Weather Room, Morse Code Equipments, and even the transmitters and receivers.
Another prime museum to visit in Limerick is the Kilmallock Museum and History Trail. The museum portrays the life and industry of this town during the 19th and 20th century. The actual town model highlights the museum. The model represents Kilmallock during the medieval times. Guided tours to this museum are available daily.
Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, makes an effort to establish the significant history of the Palatines through the Irish Palatine Heritage Musuem. Palatines refer to the families of German origin who migrated to Ireland during the 17th century. The museum presents these families’ history through graphic presentations and relevant artifacts on display.
