Nothing beats the serenity of cycling along a region dominated by a verdant meadow. If you can’t wait to experience this for yourself, cycle ahead and follow the Mouth of the River Shannon Cycle Route. The area covered on the route puts on view the finest scenery and tranquil setting of North Kerry and Co. Limerick. To the north of the route lies the estuary of the River Shannon and to its west is the ocean. The route passes along the coastal regions of Tralee, Ballyheigue and Ballybunion. Then it circumvents the Kerry Head where cyclists are taken into the route’s highest point. There are significant sites and impressive scenery on route, as well. The trail literally takes cyclists to a paradise unknown to some but worth discovering nonetheless.
A circular cycling route in Limerick worth traversing is the land of Edmund Spenser. This person is a famous figure in Ireland’s history. His dislike for the Irish culture and his eagerness to possess lands in Ireland made him a famed persona of the past. Whatever significance he has now, it may seem little compared to the appeal of his land as an excellent cycling route. The cycle trail covers the meeting point of North Cork, Limerick and South Tipperary. It passes along the valley at Lismore, then moves up to Kilworth Mountains. Moving further ahead, cyclists are taken into the grounds of Ballyhoura Hills and Galtee Mountains. There are superb sights to see while enjoying the thrill of this cycling activity. The route continues towards Cahir, a vibrant market town at the eastern foot of the Galtee Mountains.
Co. Limerick has a number of facilities offering bike rentals. There are also quite a few operators for guided cycling tours around this county. It pays well to visit the Tourist Information Office available in the area for further information regarding the routes and the tours. For sure, it would be best to have the proper preparation and knowledge before actually plunging into this thrilling yet relaxing adventure.
Cycling in Limerick lures cyclists to anticipate and be excited on what lies ahead. These amazing cycle routes are sure to interest anyone – even the less cycling aficionados – to grab a bike and explore the beauty of Limerick.
