Aside from the natural allure of the county, Co. Cork completes the stay of its visitors with a number of historical amusements made to be enjoyed by everyone. Two of the most popular and well visited heritage sites are the Old Midleton Distillery and the West Cork Model Railway Village. These spots have been well recommended by everyone who were lucky enough to have experienced them.
The Old Midleton Distillery which has its roots in the late 17th century now serves as a focal tourist attraction in Co. Cork. Loaded with copious history in itself, this distillery takes its guests to an amazing journey to the home of Ireland’s best whiskey. Visitors are fed with knowledge regarding the place and their product through an audio-visual presentation. Old Midleton Distillery is ideally located at the east end of Midleton’s main street making it very accessible. The highlight of the place, aside from the remarkable taste of the whiskey, is the giant pot in the still house. A tour to this distillery includes a visit to the brew house, the still house, and the Jameson Bar. The final part of the tour is what most visitors love – why, because it is the time to drink a glass of the whiskey. To put things right, one could say that the place saves the best for last.
West Cork, on the other hand, is proud to be a home to the Model Railway Village in Clonalkity. This miniature railway village was built for the purpose of putting up a tourism facility that will vividly display the history and changing era of the village. The challenging effort behind the making of this mini village has literally paid off since it has received a number of praiseworthy comments regarding its historical and educational relevance. This village’s replica includes four West Cork Towns: Clonakilty, Kinsale and Bandon and Dunmanway. The model railway heightens the tour with its realistic appeal.
A tour to these historical amusements is not merely enjoying, it is educational as well. These centers give the tourists a glimpse of the laden past of the place, and in doing so, make tourists love the place better.
