Co. Galway is the second largest county in Ireland, next to Co. Cork. It is part of the province of Connacht and lies majestically on the west coast of Ireland. Its principal city is the Galway City. Along with it come three main towns, the Ballinasloe, Loughrea and Tuam. Tourists can relish Galway’s history through the Dun Aenghus, Athenry Castle, Kylemore Abbey, Coole Park, and Thoor Ballylee. The last, being home to the world renowned literary figure, W.B. Yeats. There are also quite a few monasteries here as they were built during the early Christianity period. These are excellent sites to discover as you plan out a historical journey in Galway. Co. Galway abounds in numerous golf clubs as well. This makes this county an ideal destination for some remarkable tee time. And with quite a number of beaches in the area, swimming adventures are exceptional here. These beaches are all recognized by Europe’s Blue Flag Committee which means they passed all the criteria needed to make an excellent beach resort.
Aside from the historical tour, tee times, and swimming escapes, Galway offers other stirring activities to enjoy while in this county. It includes walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, night outs and even eating outs. Furthermore, there are several hotels in store for you just in case you need one.
