Cycling may be a passion to some while merely a hobby to others. Whatever your level of enjoyment is, Co. Cork is the ultimate place to splurge some days with your bike. Where to go is not a worry for you. Co. Cork has specially set aside cycling routes to make your activity as problem-free as possible.
West Cork has been endowed with so many wondrous lakes and rivers which can be well enjoyed over a bike ride. There are tours designed for this and tourists who want to take part in the activity are very much welcome. This 185 km bike path is composed of mountain ranges which are a proud product of bygone century’s earth movements. The tour takes its beginning at the Sheehy mountains with its River Lee (An Laoi) on the western border of Co. Cork. From here it heads on to Lough Allua which is a six miles succession of lakes bordered with the most exquisite scenery and heritage attractions. Then the route continues to the city of Cork, after which the Gougane Barra welcomes the cyclists. The Deer’s Pass is next in line; afterwards the mighty Bandon River comes in the scene. The appealing town of Kinsale is the final spot.
Still in the area of West Cork, cyclists can indulge in a relaxing cycling experience along the coasts. This is a 214 km cycling route that is intended for those who wanted to break their own limits when it comes to adventure. The course will be passing through some coves and sheer climbs. The coastal view adds zest to the experience. Tourists should be ready to ride along a point as high as 270m for this is the highest point of the route.
With over 136 km route, the Beara trail is considered to be one of the most recommended cycling route not only in Co. Cork but all throughout Ireland. The way is basically circular in nature and generally passes along the entire peninsula. En-route, cyclists and tourists can behold the magnificent display of nature and coastal prides. What is unique in this route is that it doesn’t have a fixed and defined starting point or ending spot. This allows anyone to just literally join themselves in wherever this cycling tour passes.
The Blackwater Valley Cycling Route is another option for cyclists. This tour is more of historical travel since it starts and ends in two historical places: Youghal, Co. Cork and Killarney, Co. Kerry. This is a 156 km cycling route which can be well divided into 4 major routes: Youghal to Fermoy, Fermoy to Kanturk, Kanturk to Millstreet, and Millstreet to Killarney.
Discover the enchanting setting of Dingle as you ride your way to Dingle’s cycling route. The trail is principally composed of lowlands although cyclists should expect for a higher point of at least 500 m as they cross the backbone of Dingle by Conor pass. The total length of the route is 151 km along the picturesque harbor.
North West Co. Cork offers its Duhallow Trail Cycle Route for tourists who want to discover and explore more this charming and spectacular place. The route is a long 186 km journey and is divided into three sections: Millstreet to Kanturk, Kanturk to Taur and Taur back to Millstreet.
These are merely some of the cycling routes that Co. Cork offers. You will be surprised to find at least triple this list when you actually set foot on this great land.
